“Anno 2018 and we are still dealing with discrimination. If it’s on a base of gender or religion. You would think these subjects wouldn’t create this much of a chaos. Well, let me break it down for you, even now we (with ‘we’ I mean the Muslim community) need to fight for our rights. The fact that the Islam has a bad reputation because of a small group who did some hideous actions in the name of our faith, we still trying to prove people wrong.”

Points collecting for exactly what?

So almost 3 weeks ago a group of right-wing idiots slated 3 April 2018 as the ‘Punish a Muslim day’. (Punish a Muslim day. (2018). Beside the naming of this ‘event’ there was also a list spread out on social media. On this list, there were different tasks listed which people needed to follow to collect these points.

To collect the points, you could do things from verbally abuse a Muslim up to with bombing/burning a mosque. A lot of Muslims asked their selves and other Muslims if this is a joke or if they should take it seriously. The most shocking thing is that in certain districts in London this letter has been spread on paper to some Muslim households. Oh, side fact, the points don’t lead to anything. I mean like, it’s not that when you collected 250 points the Albert Heijn will give you 3 watermelons and 4 bottles of wine for free…

Another weird fact is that the identity from this person or group isn’t known. There is a big chance that it was set up by one person in the hope that he/she could influence more people to do the stupid actions as written in the letter. The fact that a lot of female Muslims were advised to put a beanie on their head instead of a hijab does show us how scared the Muslim community got. Also, in a short amount of time a ‘second version of punish a Muslim day’ was announced. (TheNewArab. (2018). Vile ‘Punish a Muslim Day’ returns for the sequal nobody wanted.). If you ask me this is something the English parliament should think about, and every place or land where discrimination is present. Especially the reason why something as this is organized and even gets the chance to be put out in public. (NOS. (2018). Britse parlementsleden bedreigd, zorgen om 'punish a muslim day'.).

And then it hit the social media and further…

I was kind of shocked because one of the social influencers I follow got this letter herself. Dina Torkia is a YouTuber, social influencer and a clothing/hijab designer. Not only because of the things I just listed she’s popular, but also because she talks openly about topics that has to do with Islam. When she told about this letter, even she did not believe it herself, but at the same time also spoke about how careful she got this day. How we as Muslim woman were forced to replace our hijab for a beanie or cap. Just to make the chance smaller for crazy people who take this ‘punish a Muslim day’ serious wouldn’t attack Muslim woman (or even men too). The reason why this topic is so interesting is because the Islam is getting a more negative image in this century.

How to deal with these kinds of incidents in the future:

The question is how this image will be in 25/30 years. At this moment, we see the megatrend artificial intelligence popping up. This means that a computer can think as a real human. This could be one of the things which could be a solution for future problems. Like these kinds of racist actions. A macro trend which is linked with this mega trend is trusted content. This means that everything on the internet/social media/television is automatically checked if it’s real news/updates etc. In 20/35 years, this could be a way to filter false news reports or social media stunts. Another mega trend which can influence the future potential of this subject can be individualization. This means that people are getting more focused on their selves and caring less about peer pressure. The Muslims from 20/35 years later could be so adjusted to the Western culture that there isn’t any case of racism or terrorism. From the other side, there would be also a possibility that Muslims will get more discriminated.

From one side the digital life would be saver because of a system like this. But from the other side I ask myself in how far this system would be trustable? In the past we have seen how misleading the digital world can be. If this is a not fully working virus-program, or online ba

nking which can go wrong. A macro trend what has to do with this subject is human enhancement. (Joosten, P. (2018). This means that the human body can be biologically optimized by example seeing better in the dark or concentrate for a longer time. For the future in ±2045 this could be mean that certain people who are more found of discriminating people, a certain chip or injection to suppress or stop these thoughts/actions.
